The corneal cone, as a biomechanical phenomenon of the cornea, has fascinated us for many years. Our experience translates into huge effectiveness of performed treatments and creation of innovative solutions on an international scale.
We not only implant intracorneal rings and crosslinking (with or without epithelial removal), but also use the innovative Topoguided procedure (corneal modeling). We combine keratoconus correction procedures using technology based on its mapping. The treatment creates a regular corneal surface that allows correction of vision defects using glasses or ordinary contact lenses. After a few months, the remaining vision defect can be corrected with an excimer laser.
This is a procedure that primarily protects the cornea against the keratoconus. It is performed trans-epithelially using UV rays. The riboflavin used is intended to protect individual eye structures from excessive radiation. This treatment involves strengthening collagen bonds in the cornea and so-called aging the cornea, which in turn becomes more rigid.
After the CLX, there is no further way of raising the cornea because it is fully secured. The procedure is painless, and after the procedure the patient can function normally and return to daily activities.
This procedure is usually used in the first stage of cone advancement.

INJECTION OF THE INTACS RING
A treatment aimed at leveling the surface of the cornea, and thus improving vision. It involves surgical insertion of the Intacs ring into a previously created tunnel with a femtosecond laser.
The ring is made of PMMA and is completely safe for the eye. The cone is usually located in the lower part of the cornea due to gravity (cone), the ring placed in the right place has the task to mechanically “push” the cone upwards, which will cause a fair leveling of the corneal surface. This stage (shifting) lasts about half a year, i.e. during this time the patient may alternately experience improvement and deterioration of vision until the cornea acquires the right shape.
This is an innovative method developed under the direction of Piotr Voigt. This procedure is painless and lasts about 20 minutes, and after the procedure the patient can function normally. This procedure is usually a salvation against corneal transplant and an alternative for better vision. As a rule, Intacs stays in your eye for the rest of your life and is also a protection against the progression of the disease.
Intacs ring implantation is used in the third stage of keratokonus advancement. The fourth phase leads to transplantation.
TOPOGUIDED + CROSS-LINKING

The epithelium is removed by excimer laser (trans-PRK method), which means that the edges of the cornea are not “jagged” as in the case of treatments using so-called “hockey” (PRK) or other form of PRK which is the use of “hockey” with a plastic cover – EBK. This allows the epithelium to be rebuilt in such a way that the epithelium regularly covers the cornea creating a perfectly smooth surface. This procedure is performed with a single laser and is completely safe for the patient.
Another procedure is cross-linking (after epithelial abrasion), which aims to strengthen corneal collagen bonds and inhibit cone progression. The difference between the CLX treatment is that in this case UV rays penetrate deeper layers of the cornea, which results in an increase in the area of collagen fiber strengthening. The topoguided procedure is aimed, among others, at improving vision due to the leveling of the corneal surface, as well as the possibility of subsequent selection of eyepiece correction or correction with soft lenses.
Half a year after the procedure, the patient can also perform a laser correction of the refractive defect by the surface method and completely get rid of the glasses or lenses. The procedure itself is painless, while after the procedure the eye hurts for approx 2-3 days, which is natural for epithelial reconstruction. After a few days, vision improves over time and visual acuity can even reach 100%.
This procedure is used in particular in the second stage of keratokonus advancement.
