Astigmatism, also known as non-astigmatism, is a visual defect affecting more than 30% of the world's population. The problem is related to the distortion of the eyeball - specifically, the cornea or lens. Patients experience it as image curvature, deterioration in sharpness and contrast sensitivity. The defect is treated conservatively with glasses or contact lenses. For several years there has also been the possibility of laser correction of astigmatism.

Rogówka to zewnętrzna, wypukła warstwa oka, znajdująca się w jego przedniej części. Pełni ona bardzo ważną rolę w procesie widzenia – „przepuszcza” promieniowanie świetlne do gałki ocznej i odpowiednio je załamuje. Aby mechanizm przebiegał prawidłowo, ta część oka musi być w pełni przezroczysta. Zapalenie rogówki może natomiast zaburzać jej przejrzystość, a co za tym idzie – proces widzenia, dlatego chorobę trzeba jak najszybciej leczyć.

The cornea is the outer, convex layer of the eye, located at the front of the eye. It plays a very important role in the process of vision - it "transmits" light radiation to the eyeball and refracts it accordingly. For the mechanism to work properly, this part of the eye must be fully transparent. Corneal inflammation, on the other hand, can interfere with the transparency of the cornea, and thus the process of vision, so the disease must be treated as soon as possible.
