Close-up visual acuity test
The close-up visual acuity test is a complement to the distance visual acuity test – with its help it is possible to assess the quality of a patient’s vision from a distance of about 30 centimeters, which is about the distance needed for reading. It is particularly important for people with presbyopia, in whom progressive loss of accommodation leads to deterioration of close-up visual acuity. This eye test, therefore, involves showing the patient standard text or individual optotypes to read. Also, it does not require special preparation, is performed at every visit to the ophthalmologist, and is not associated with any side effects.
