Test of distance visual acuity
The test of visual acuity for distance allows the evaluation of the resolution capacity of the retina. They are usually carried out on the so-called. Snellen arrays, which feature characters of different sizes, called optotypes. These can be letters, numbers or drawings (for children and non-readers). The size of the optotypes decreases in each successive row – the patient’s task is to read the signs one by one, covering the right or left eye. If he is able to correctly identify optotypes from the lowest order, his visual acuity to the distance is 5/5 or in decimal notation 1.0. The test requires no special preparation and is performed during almost every ophthalmology visit.
